IRS Encourages Taxpayers to Renew ITINs
Posted by Kim Chen on August 6th, 2019
The IRS is encouraging individuals with expiring Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) who expect to have a filing requirement in 2020 to start the renewal process early to avoid refund delays next year. ITINs that haven’t been used on a return at least once in the last three consecutive years will expire 12/31/19. Also, ITINs with middle digits 83, 84, 85, 86, or 87 that haven’t been already renewed will expire at the end of the year. Taxpayers can renew their ITINs by completing Form W-7 and submitting all required documentation. Individuals can choose to renew their family’s ITINs together even if family members have ITINs with middle digits other than those set to expire. News Release IR 2019-118.
